Walking tour

1. Day/ : Arrival in Sofia
Arrival at airport Sofia. Transfer to the Hotel. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

2. Day/: SofiaPlovdiv
After breakfast sightseeing tour of Sofia. Departure to Plovdiv – the second biggest city Bulgaria’s. Sight seeing of the city, including the old quarter, the Ethnographic museum, two mosques and the Roman Amphi-Theatre, the St. Konstantin and Helena Church, with its gold iconostas in style Baroque.

3. Day/ : Plovdiv – Batchkovo Monastery – Devin
Departure to the Batchkovo Monastery – one of the oldest monasteries in the Bulgarian lands. It is known for its original architecture, rich collections of old icons, jewellery, coins and church plate from different periods that turned Batchkovo Monastery into one of the richest galleries of old Bulgarian art.
Again on the bus after an hour you reach the Miracle bridges. They are 50 m high and 40 m wide natural rock arches. Departure to Devin – a town in the heart of the Rhodopes.
On the way stop in the architecture reserve Shiroka Luka village with more than 100 protected houses. The road passes along the valley of Trigradska river. The school for folk music in this village preserves the music traditions of the Rhodope’s region. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

4. Day/ : Devin – Trigrad Gorge – Jagodinska Cave – “The devil’s throat” cave – Shiroka Luka - Devin
Breakfast. The whole day include walking around the Rhodopes. The Rhodopes are the widest mountain in Bulgaria. First departure trough the Trigrad Gorge with hanging over the road numerous tunnels to the “Devil’s throat” cave – wired, famous with the highest underground waterfall – 42 m. Walking through a forest way to the Jagodinska cave (3 hours). The cave with its 10 km length and 3 flours belong to the biggest caves in this region.
Dinner and overnight in Devin.

5. Day/ : Devin – Bansko
Breakfast. Walking in the region of Devin around 4 hours. Departure for Bansko – a winter resort on 930 m height. Dinner and overnight in the Hotel.

6. Day/ : Bansko – Vihren chalet  – Peak Vihren – Bansko
Breakfast. Transfer by bus to the starting piont. Climbing the peak Vihren (2914 m) – the second highest peak Bulgaria’s (6-7 hours). Transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

7. Day/ : Bansko – Rozhen Monastery – Melnik – Sandanski
After breakfast departure for the Rozhen monastery. Rozhen monastery owes its fame above all to its carved iconostasis and lecterns. Short walk (1,5h) to Melnik – the smallest town of Bulgaria, a history and architecture reserve, situated near the sandstone pyramids. Visiting the Kordopulov-house, wine tasting in St. Nicola wine cellar. Departure to Sandanski. Dinner and Overnight in the hotel.

8. Day/ : Sandanski – Rila Monastery – Borovetz
Breakfast. Departure to the Rila Monastery – one of Europe’s largest monasteries. Sightseeing of the monastery featuring the unsurpassed frescoes of the main church, the monastery museum and its exquisite architecture. 2 hours walk to the St. Ivan Rilki’s grave.
Continue to the biggest mountain resort Borovetz, situated in the Mussala ridge  of Eastern Rila – the highest mountain on the Balkan peninsula. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

9. Day/ : Borovetz – Mussala peak – Mussala chalet – Borovetz
After breakfast transfer by bus to the lift station Yastrebetz. Climbing to the Mussala peak, where the view is wonderful. Walking to the Mussala chalet. Return to the lift station and transfer to the hotel in Borovetz. Dinner and overnight. (walk time: 6-7 hours)
If the lift is closed alternative trekking route.

10. Day/ : Borovetz – Panichishte  – Rila lake chalet
Breakfast. Transfer to Panichishte. Walking around the area of the “Seven Rila Lakes” (7 hours).
Dinner and overnight in the chalet.

11. Day/ : Borovetz – Sofia
After breakfast walking to chalet Vada or Panichishte (4 hours)  and departure to Sofia.
Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

12.  Day/ : Sofia   Breakfast. Transfer to the airport and departure.
