  INTERESTING FACTS OF RELIGION

In the Loudogorie Mountain Region one can find the sanctuaries of the God Tangra (Tengri) close to the village of Madara, nearby the magic symbolic relief of the Madara Knight. There are preserved sanctuaries in the Old Bulgarian capitals Pliska and Preslav.  Tangrism is shamanism from Mid Asia brought by the Old Bulgarians during the Great Migration of Peoples from Pamir and Tyanshan Regions.

The religion of the ancient Bulgarians was far from the traditional idolatry, characteristic of the Ancient world. Tangra, the supreme deity of the Bulgarians, had no visible image. Tangraism is rather a philosophical and world outlook unity of three substantial concepts - Tan (universe), Nak (man) and Ra (God), a syncretism of a universal, profoundly considered philosophical formula. Embedded in its basis are the values of the Bulgarian world outlook: tolerance, loyalty and justice.

According to changing society the esoteric and occult books translated into Bulgarian are growing in numbers.

Esoteric tourism. Located in the heart of the Balkan Peninsula, Bulgaria has been a centre of esoteric doctrines since thousands of years. The most popular sites connected to these phenomena are the well preserved Thracian sanctuaries, Tangrist pagan sanctuaries, the sanctuaries of the Bogomils – being a base for future Katares and Albigenses to step on, the Hesychast Christian monasteries, the sacred sites of Dunov’s White Brotherhood, the areas related to the energy phenomenon of Vanga the Prophet.
